Larus fuscus fuscus adult KR.HP, October 09 2009, Maagan Michael, Israel. Pictures Gal Shon & Amir Ben Dov.

KR.HP is a bird from a satellite transmitting project, run by Martin Wikelski & Risto Juvaste. Risto explains: we have satellite tagged a total of 127 fuscus in this German project by Martin Wikelski. 37 birds were released in Finland and another 37 Finnish birds were translocated to Heligoland and released there. Altogether 53 were tagged in Solovki (Russia, Archangelsk oblast) and 33 from them were translocated for releasing to Kazan (Russia, north of the Caspian Sea). Some of the gulls have passed by Ashdod but did not stop. Many went to the Egyptian coast and Nile delta.
Early October, the first tagged birds are already at the equator (Lake Viktoria).

KR.HP is such a tagged bird, found in Israel early October. P1-P10 are still old, the complete moult has not started yet. Secondaries and rectrices old as well. Ill-defined head streaking most prominent in the hind neck and ear coverts. On December 04 2009 this bird was found dead near Ein Yahav (30 41 48N 35 80 95E).
