Larus fuscus fuscus adult CEK2, September 19 2009, Ashdod. Picture Amir Ben Dov. CEK2 is ringed as 3+cy male on 30 May 1998 at Kuopio, Finland (62.8334, 27.5494) by ringer Risto Juvaste. Complete moult not started yet. Note that the inner 3 primaries look more worn at the tips, than do the central and outer primaries, despite being protected underneath the tertials in resting. Probably, these innermost 3 primaries have been replaced somewhat earlier than the other feathers, a moult strategy followed by many nominate fuscus and already described by Stresemann & Stresemann in 1966 in Journal für Ornithologie. They described a periodische Staffelmauser, a step-wise moult. |
