Larus fuscus fuscus adult, March 12 2011, Ashdod. Pictures Amir Ben Dov.
Birds in courtship by March. The bond in pairs may be established at stop-over sites in spring, like here at Ashdod. It is known that fuscus normally has the same partner for years, and it would be interesting to know if they already recognise eachother (by calls?) before they return to the colonies. Or is this just flirting and hormones playing a role?
