Larus fuscus fuscus 3cy, August 06 2002, Tampere, Finland (61.33N 24.59E).

A bird in 3cy. There is no mirror in the old second generation P10. Primary moult has been arrested at P3 with P1-P3 third generation and P4-P10 still second generation. The tail-feather R3 is still largely blackish and there is some black marking on R2. The outer secondaries are new third generation, while the inner secondaries are still old second generation feathers. During the moult of the inner three primaries, the median coverts were moulted simultaneously, and appear much darker now than the adjacent greater coverts and lesser coverts.

Note the streaking on head and neck and note the coloration of the bill.
