Larus fuscus intermedius 2cy JJ6S May 28 2006, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Picture: Ruud Altenburg. JJ6S was ringed in 2005 on Napp, Flakstad, Nordland, Norway (68°08'00"N 013°27'00"E). This region holds several mixed colonies of both pure fuscus-type birds and pale-mantled birds (either graellsii or intermedius). The plumage shown by JJ6S in spring nicely fits intermedius from southern Norway (better than it does fit 2cy graellsii). Most of the tertials, wing-coverts and at least one tail-feather were included in the post-juvenile moult on the wintering ground. More information about migration strategies in Norwegian fuscus and the ringing programme in the three northern counties of Norway: Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, can be found here: The summary for juveniles can be found in the fuscus 1cy October section, the summary for adults can be found in the fuscus adult October section. |
